2022 Freycinet Vineyard Pinot Noir
2022 Freycinet Vineyard Pinot Noir
"Such a pretty red-fruited wine with notes of redcurrant, raspberry, red cherry and a liminal whiff of watermelon and cranberry. There's an array of exotic spice and hints of purple flowers, rhubarb, amaro herbs, mushroom broth, forest floor, Peking duck, pomegranate and earth. Spacious, filigreed and mineral-laden, I really liked this wine's energy, super-fine tannins, meaty nuance and tail of raspberry and spice as it slowly retreated. Lovely and perfect for those seeking a lighter, airier style of pinot."

"Medium red with a tinge of purple and attractive smoked cherry, charcuterie and pot-pourri aromas; the palate intense and bright, lively and piercing with good concentration and multi-layered flavours, the tannins surrounding a lovely juicy core of sweet ripe fruit. Gorgeous drinking. Long finish too. Superb."

Freycinet Vineyard’s good name and reputation for Pinot Noir has developed over more than 40 years of producing fine Pinot Noir from our distinguished site. We are proud of the many accolades, awards and recognition Freycinet Pinot Noir has received over the decades.
It gives us immense joy to hear from customers about their magnified drinking pleasure experienced after opening special bottles of Freycinet Pinot Noir from their cellars. Our relatively warmer, drier amphitheatre site creates a more muscular, robust style of Pinot Noir that lends itself very well to cellaring.
Cooler vintage conditions have created our most elegant Pinot Noir in some years, with the unmistakable Freycinet hallmarks of power, concentration, fruit purity, complexity and enviable length all featured in abundance.
The vineyard's bloodline and pedigree are unmistakable, making this must have vintage for lovers of Pinot Noir and loyal followers of Freycinet Vineyard.
The 2022 vintage was one of the coolest, wettest seasons experienced on the East Coast with long, slow ripening and low yields. Lower sunshine and warmth have ensured superb concentration of flavours, excellent natural acid retention and an extra degree of elegance and finesse in the wines.
Fully ripened fruit is handpicked for this wine from our original 1979 plantings of mostly G5V15 clone. 100% whole berry fermentation provides impressive fruit weight and powerful tannins. Matured in French oak barriques (30% new) for 17 months on fine lees.

The hallmarks of power, concentration, complexity and length feature in this wine. Alluring aromas of spice and macerated cherries, ripe raspberries and plums combine with a subtle floral perfume of rosehip, truffle and undergrowth.
The vibrant palate is silken and detailed, offering an abundance of exotic spice, satsuma plum, pomegranate and sour cherry flavours intermingled with subtle oak nuances, svelte mineral tannins and a satiny mouthfeel. Silky texture and gamey, intriguing forest floor characteristics will further develop with careful cellaring over 10 to 15 years.
A magnificent wine reflecting the season and the unique terroir of a very special site.
